Antirrhineae chavannes
- Location: Beitraege zur biologie der pflanzen, 64 (3). 1990. 357-376.
- Abstract: the tribe Antirrhineae were distinguishable by the distributional
pattern of hairs on the inner surface of the corolla, especially
that occurring on the lower lip palate and the occurrence of two
parallel running stripes of hairs on the lower (anterior) surface
of the corolla tube as in Antirrhinum, linaria, chaenorrhinum and
maurandya. the two very closely resembling species cymbalaria
muralis and cymbalaria pallida could be separated from one another
by the occurrence of two parallel running stripes of hairs that
extended up to the end of the spur in cymbalaria pallida. on the
analysis of the forms of hairs the following conclusions were
arrived at: (a) on the inner surface of the corolla usually
unicellular hairs are present, and also drumstick like hairs -
whichform the characteristic feature for the family
scrophulariaceae, since these were not observed in the neighbouring
families raman (1968). (b) on the outer surface of the corolla on
the one hand only glandular trichomes were met with as in misopates
orontium, maurandya barclaiana and the linaria species, on the
other hand both glandular as well as uniseriate simple trichomes
were observed in the genera Antirrhinum and chaenorrhinum. presence
of membrane structures on the glandular trichomes form the specific
character for maurandya barclaiana.
